The price of Bankruptcy is going Up!

As of November 1, 2011 the fees for filing any bankruptcy under any chapter are going up.   The new fee for filing a Chapter 7 bankruptcy is going from $299 to $308. 

The fee for filing a Chapter 13 bankruptcy is going from $274 to $281. 

At its September 2011 session, the Judicial Conference approved changes to the miscellaneous fee schedules for the courts of appeals, district courts, bankruptcy courts, the Court of Federal Claims, and the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, pursuant to 28 U.S.C. §§ 1913, 1914, 1930, 1926, and 1932, respectively.

The changes to the Bankruptcy Court Miscellaneous Fee Schedule are noted below and will become effective November 1, 2011:

* The approved increase in the notice of appeal fee necessitates that the supplemental direct appeal fee be reduced to ensure that the total fee for filing a direct appeal does not exceed the established appellate filing fee of $450.

**This fee, along with the statutory filing fees for each chapter set out at 28 U.S.C. § 1930, is due at filing; accordingly, the total amount due at filing for all chapters will increase by $7.00.
